“Go Big or Go Home” — Reflections on the First Freedom Event (2016)
The very first Freedom event in 2016 was nothing short of amazing. I remember the sense of vision so clearly — “We had better go big or go home!” And so, with faith, we went BIG. We chose Renewal Christian Centre as our venue, believing that if God had called us to this, He would fill the space with women hungry for breakthrough. The event ran from Friday night through Saturday and featured an incredible line-up of speakers. It was truly life-transforming, and testimonies from that weekend continue to this day. One thing that stands out in my memory is the boldness and faith I carried at that time. I wasn’t afraid — I simply believed God would move. And I will always be grateful for Bishop David Carr, who believed in the vision, encouraged and protected me, and provided covering and support as I stepped out.
Throughout the weekend, we witnessed lives changed through powerful preaching and the presence of God. I remember Tendayi Ndoro running around the room under the power of the Holy Spirit — such freedom in the atmosphere! The praise and worship was electric. The young worship team led with such passion and anointing — the room was filled with God’s presence. I was honestly buzzing for weeks afterward. All of this was undergirded by prayer — we had prayed into the event so intentionally. And God moved beyond anything we imagined. I’m so thankful for the amazing team who served tirelessly to bring the vision to life. That weekend also marked the launch of my first book, Girl in the Mirror. Sharing my testimony and watching God use it to minister to women was a deeply humbling moment.
Looking back, I can only say — it was phenomenal. The beginning of something that has continued to grow year by year. God was faithful then, and He is faithful still.
